I am the proud wife of my high school sweetheart and a homeschooling mom of five beautiful, active children. My oldest is 9 and growing up fast. She is such a help to me, and I don’t know what I’d do without her. My second child is barreling into his 8th year at full speed (which, by the way, is how he does everything). He is oh-so-sweet at heart and a challenge to raise.
Our third is 3 1/2 now with more personality than she knows what to do with. She has been charming us with her curls, her funny faces and her sweet kisses since she made her dramatic entrance into our family. Our fourth child is our sweet, sensitive 2-year old. He was relaxed and laid back from the moment he was born and he remains my best sleeper. Now that he’s mobile, though, I spend my days keeping him out of the fridge, the fireplace, the bathroom sink and the dvd shelf. Our last little blessing is nearly one. She’s got a little dimple that isn’t hard to coax. With all the entertainers in the house, she’s full of smiles. She is a doll and I love watching her personality develop.
As for me, sometimes it is hard to find myself amidst all the jobs that I do, but I think it is better that way. After all, it isn’t about me. My desire is to point to Christ. My strength comes from Him alone, and my joy is found when I surrender to His gentle leading. His yoke is easy and His burden light; I just forget sometimes to give him my load and take up His ,and so I slip and stumble under the weight of my own. But the goal is that each day I’ll surrender. I’ll let there be more of Him and less of me.
Some Things I Like:
English Tea (Yorkshire Red is my favorite), Indian food, playing tv-tag (or hide and scare) with my kids, debating politics or theology, Pride and Prejudice (both versions, though I’m partial to the new one), Italian food, Anne of Green Gables (books and movies), the rain, napping, the smell of babies and the laughter of children, daisies, Jane Eyre (the book), spooning with my husband, teaching my children.
Things that Inspire Me:
Beautiful photographs, excellent writing, missionary stories, the hugs and kisses I get from my children at the end of the day (even on days I lose my temper), and talking to my sister (whom I really admire).
Things that Make Me Pray for Christ’s Return:
Stories about children who are victims of their parents’ sin — I never want Jesus to return so badly as when I hear another news story of a child who has been hurt. But the Lord is patient and desires that none should perish….
Thoughts of my dear son, Evan, who is waiting in heaven for my arrival.
When I am confronted with my own sin and the damage it has done, I sometimes wish the fight were over. Won’t it be wonderful to have “no more sin” in heaven!
And so I pray, “Come, Lord Jesus.”
